This Friday, we had our The Black Heritage Trail which was as important as the freedom trail. The Black Heritage Trail is an important part of American history. Every member of the husky acted as a guide to introduce these historical sites.
We started at the memorial, learning about the history of black soldiers in the revolutionary war. Then we go through Beacon Hill. It is a beautiful neighborhood to walk through, rich in history.
The site which I was introduced was the Smiths Court, It consists of many small courts. It is located at the area of lower Joy Street and Smith Court was an important center of Boston’s 19th black community. At that time, African Americans began to reside on the north slope of Beacon Hill. Nowadays, the historic homes on Smith Court, along with the African Meeting House and the Abiel Smith School, are the best preserved physical locales available for understanding the history of African Americans in Boston.
Abiel Smith School also attracted me. It was the city's first public school for black children. The school's exhibits interpret the ongoing struggle started in the 1830s for equal school rights.
Although we felt a little bit exhausted in the end, we still enjoyed this trip.
Yeah, the streets looks beautiful.
