Field Trip for Massachusetts State House
It’s another sun shining and fantastic Friday. As usual, all huskies and other groups will enjoy the Field Trip. Today, our new destination is located at Boston in the Beacon Hill neighborhood. It is also called “New” State House, the state capital and seat of government of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
The Massachusetts State House was built in 1795 by a young native born architect named Charles Bulfinch. Actually, there has already has an organization like this. The architect called Chapman & Andrews. Nevertheless, the state leaders wanted a larger home which accommodates an expanding government. Therefore, the Massachusetts State House was accomplished in January 11, 1798. As the same time, it not only became one of the most magnificent buildings around the U.S, but also the beautiful landscape.
When we first came into the gate, the special and splendid dome provided a deep impression for me. The dome was first painted gray and then light yellow before being gilded with leaf in 1874. However, the dome was reprinted again to gray. Because that’s a significant method to protect the buildings and cities from bombing, during World War 2.
Moreover, we could easy to find an equestrians statue of General Joseph Hooker. It was located in front of the building. On the grounds below the central colonnade are statues of orator Daniel Webster, educator Horace Mann, and Civil War General Joseph Hooker. Furthermore, the statues of Anne and Mary Dyer are located on the lawns below the east and west wings.
In general, this field totally broaden my horizon in Boston history even the architecture of Boston. The more you enjoy in the Field Trip this time, the more you understand Boston.
