A visit to the Massachusetts State House
Lucas Li
Near the Independence Day, we had a good chance to visit the Massachusetts State House on July 2, 2010. When I stood in front of it, I saw the golden roof which looks like the one of church. In front of the building is an equestrian statue of General Joseph Hooker. Other statues in front of the building include Daniel Webster, educator Horace Mann, and former US President John F. Kennedy. The statues of Anne Hutchinson and Mary Dyer are located on the lawns below the east and west wings. In addition, the white pillars and red wall made me felt very solemn. It was built on land once owned by John Hancock, Massachusetts's first elected governor. Like the visit to Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, we must pass the safety inspection because many government officials work in here. On the second floor, we saw the model of Massachusetts State House, it was moulded vividly.
Inside of it, there are Governor's offices of the Massachusetts Senate and House of Representatives Chamber. The office of Massachusetts Senate is in the west end of the house and the office of House of Representatives Chamber is under the dome. The large main doors inside Doric Hall are only opened on three occasions: 1.When the President of the United States or foreign head of state visits. 2. When the Governor exits the building on his last day in office. 3. When a regimental flag returns from battle. I think we were very lucky because we had a very amiable hierophant. On earth, I felt very happy to visit the Massachusetts State House.
