MIT Museum regina

The last field trip we went to the MIT museum, it makes me know that any idea you think can become true.

MIT Museum, founded in 1971, is the museum of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It hosts collections of holography, artificial intelligence, robotics, maritime history, and the history of MIT. The MIT Museum invites me to explore invention, ideas, and innovation. All the things are very wonderful and i think the creations are amazing. 'Robots and Beyond ' shows the process of evolution that precedes a successful invention with the visitor getting a behind-the -scenes. the most interest thing i like id the holography collection. There is a holography work, you can see it like just that you can touch it but actually you cannot. And it can change with your field of view.

I consider that going to the MIT Museum is the most interest place in all the trips.

Harvard university Regina

Harvard university is very famous and everyone knows it. if someone study in the Harvard University, he or she maybe learn about academic things or can find a good job when graduates.

Harvard University is a private Ivy League university located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Established in 1636 by the colonial Massachusettes legislature, Harvard is the first corporation chartered in the United States and oldest institution of higher learning in the United States. When i went in the Harvard University, everywhere is green and lawns and makes me relax. Though that day was very hot but under the shade, we still very carefull. Moreover , the Harvard library gives me deep impression. The white wal and the high steps let me feel that study is a stately thing and people should respect it.

Although i just visit in the campus, i can still feel the smell of learning in everywhere in campus. Harvard University will always be my dream school.

MIT museum is the last field of our exploring America class. Although the museum is small, which need just nearly 1 hour to see everything, it is fascinating. The MIT museum is probably one of the coolest museum I have been visited. There are many fantastic inventions from MIT over the years.

The MIT Museum is a place that explores invention, ideas, and innovation. The robots on the second floor are really cute. Kismet, which is the Turkish word for fate, was built to communicate with humans through body language and voice. On the first floor, just some pictures attract me. These pictures look like famous people, and then, when you start to sway a bit and your vision gets all blurry they all turn into Einstein. To tell the truth, I find that the gift shop items more interesting than the exhibits on the first floor.

After visiting, I have a tour of visiting the MIT main campus. There are many fantastic building architectures, for example the Stata Center and the Simmons Hall. The style of these campus halls are totally different from Harvard.

It is nearly the end of our summer bridge. This week we went to the last trip. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is a private research university located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. MIT Museum is found by MIT in 1971 which hosts collections of holography, artificial intelligence, robotics, maritime history, and the history of MIT. The museum shows visitors a technological world.

This holography is called Tigirl made by Professor Margaret Benyon, it shows how an architect can realize a space in three dimensions before a project is built.

This is one of the famous stuff in the MIT Museum. Called as Kismet, it is a multimedia excursion into the world of artificial intelligence, Robots and Beyond throws open the doors of MIT's Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, where scientists have been probing the mysteries of A.I. for five decades.
No doubt, the museum is interresting and let me know lots of things that I did not before. At the same time, the souvenir there is also has their own characteristics; chemical element clock, mug with machine drawing, transform diagram postcard which make me want to get all of them.
After the visit to the museum, I go for a walk in the main campus of MIT with Lisa. We saw some of the world famous building such the Simmons Hall, the Eero Saarinen's Kresge Auditorium, they looks magnificent. And we take a shuttle bus in MIT which make me excited.
I am glad I could have such a chance to Boston, to NEU, to these interesting tirps.

This week, we visit the MIT museum which is located in Boston. It is the most fantastic and amazing trip I have seen. This is because I appreciate a lot of exhibitions in terms of science like different Roberts in this museum. I feel that the purpose of MIT museum is to the creative energy of MIT, and to stimulate an understanding and appreciation of the meanings of scientific and technological innovation in the modern world. According to the introduction of interpreter, she tells us that “Recently expanded by 5,000 square feet, the Museum's galleries present ongoing and changing exhibitions on science and technology and current research; architecture and design; and oceanography, underwater robotics and ship design. People will find high-tech artifacts, prototypes, intriguing scientific instruments, historic photographs, amazing holograms, a scientific aquarium, and even ingenious kinetic sculptures”. Besides, what I am interested is that the clock in the MIT museum. This is because it is different from our traditional clock, signing one, two, and three and so on. To my surprise, this special clock uses the chemical element, such as H, Hi, and Li and so on to represent the time. I like it very much, because I think that this idea is quite creative. Therefore, I like this trip very much and I think this trip is the most interesting and meaningful trip from the whole summer course.

MIT Museum
This Friday, we went to visit the MIT Museum on our last field trip. The weather was a little bit hot on Friday but I really enjoyed that trip.
There were plenty of clothing stores near the MIT Museum and I have bought lots of fancy outfits at rather low price. I also bought 2 pairs of boots with huge discounts which made me feel really great!
We took the orange line and then transferred to the red line and finally reached the MIT Museum. This museum has two floors and is well-designed. There were a lot of interesting exhibitions in the museum. The most interesting one was the eight pictures hanging on the wall of the first floor. When you looked at these pictures closely, you would find that all the eights pictures are Einstein, however, if you looked at them from far away, you would discover that none of these eights pictures are Einstein, instead, they are photos of eight different celebrities. The first one is Harry Porter; the second one is Marylin Monroe, one is Obama and the rest pictures are other famous people except for Einstein. This exhibit was really amazing! I love them a lot!
One the second floor, there were some exhibitions about robots designed by MIT engineering students since MIT University is famous for its engineering course. Those robots were very eye-catching and I enjoyed watching and operating them a lot! Thanks for those talented MIT students who invent those excellent robots.
After I finished the field trip of visiting the MIT Museum, I went shopping with my friends in the afternoon. Even though it was getting much hotter, our passion for shopping was still unabated. We all got some awesome deals in our shopping! What an amazing Friday!

Harvard tour

This weekend, we went to the famous university---Harvard University. This is a perfect tour and I see my dream university at the first time.

Tour guides leading us around the Harvard campus are quick to mention that Harvard, founded in 1636, is the oldest college in the United States. In historic Harvard Yard, tour guides explain that Hollis Hall, a red brick structure built in 1763, housed Washington’s troops during the Revolutionary War. In front of Widener Library, tourists learn that Harvard’s library system is the largest university system in the world, containing more than ninety libraries, more than fourteen million volumes, and some 100,000 periodicals.

Harvard’s age and outstanding physical resources are among the college’s most distinctive features. Yet, few Harvard alumni will say that the best part of their Harvard experience was the fact that the college is the oldest in the country. It is more likely that they will mention the environment of daily life as the distinguishing aspect of their experience, an environment characterized by the cities of Cambridge and Boston, a unique residential life system, and the people who make Harvard tick.

Harvard has called Cambridge, Massachusetts, home for all of its 360-plus years. Cambridge, located along the Charles River a few miles from downtown Boston, boasts beautiful tree-lined streets as well as numerous shops, cinemas, restaurants, music stores, coffeehouses, bars, theaters, and bookstores.
Finally, I want to say it is a great University.

The trip to Harvard university

Last week we went to Harvard University which is the best school ever in my mind. It is a private university located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and a member of the Ivy League. We met at Ruggles at 9:30 and followed a tour guide that walked around the campus. According to the instructor, the Harvard University was established in 1636 by the colonial Massachusetts legislature, now the university comprises ten separate academic units. First, we walked around the Harvard Yard and saw many essential buildings such as Memorial Church and Library. What impressed me most is the statue of John Harvard, who was the first benefactor of the college so that the university was named Harvard College in his honor.[ The statue is located centrally in Harvard Yard, next to University Hall, so people can find it easily.
It was a great tour that gives inspirations about my further study.

The buildings in the Harvard University are really beautiful. So I want to study there.

Last Friday, we went to the Harvard University.
It was my first time to go there, and I have heard so much about this school, so I was so excited. Harverd University is the school that cannot be replaced in people's mind. Before I went there, i had heard of the reputation of the Harvard University and had the symbolic complex of it. It is considered as one of the best universities around the whole world, so it is seen as a medel by most schools. Students study for entering into this schoo and at least in China, people who have the the qualification to study in the Harvard University are considers excellent or genius. In addition, there are also many pictures I have performulated from websites. So when I first came to Harvard University, I did not feel surprised or unfamiliar with it. Same as the pictures, the campus looks holy and august and different from schools in China .At the filed trip, we just walked around the camous followed by the instuctions of tour guides. We took many pictures and listened to what the tour guide said . I t only took about 2 hours for us to look around the landmarks there.

This Friday, we had a visit to Harvard University which is one of the ivy members and the nation’s oldest institution. We had a free tour guide which led us to have a tour around the Harvard the campus. The old buildings and the scale of the place is impressive. As the guide said, the architecture is “fraught with complication”, so I took a lot of photos during our wander.

The part which enjoyed me most was the Harvard Square and the chapels, the guide told us that” Harvard Square used to have more artists and musicians. “Nowadays, it becomes historic red brick walkway. We have already visit the Memorial Church of Harvard University . It is in memory of those who died in World War I and is the symbolic center of Harvard's spiritual life I am wondering that why there are so many chapels in the Harvard university. Although it is really hot, it seems that every one enjoyed the trip.

I also went to the Funtown Splashtown USA in Maine. Spending a whole afternoon in the water park is really a good way to” survive “in the hot weather.

Dream school

Field Trip 7
The destination of this week’s field trip is Harvard University which is considered the best school in the world. I still can’t believe that I have visited Harvard because this wonderful school means too far away from my life. The guide of our trip is an undergraduate student in Harvard, I feel very curious so I ask a lot of questions to him. Of course I want to be one of the Harvard family because it has an over 350 year’s history, 8 presidents of the United States and dozens of big corporation owners graduated from here.
This is a place only culture the future leaders of the world; Harvard choose the smartest students but it doesn’t mean that all the smart guys can succeed in their future. We can find out the key which can open the door to wealth and success from the motto of Harvard such as “Nobody can casually succeed, it comes from the thorough self-control and the will”, “Even if the present, the match does not stop changes the page.” Even you don’t have a chance to study here, you still can learn a lot from Harvard.
Harvard not only means the dream school to me, but also the method which towards my own success. The truth is right there on the wall of Harvard, use it or lose it is depend on people themselves.

The visit of Harvard University-Elaine

This Friday, we visited Harvard University which was every student want to study in there. I was so eager to visit Harvard. When I was a little child, I wanted to study in Harvard. It was a pity that I didn’t the ability to applicant this university.
Harvard University was set up at 1986. Harvard University includes Harvard College and 10 graduate and professional schools. Harvard is a very beautiful and larger.
When I visited Harvard, the thing which I most wanted to do was visit its library. Harvard’s library is the largest university library collection in the world. There are more than 15 million volumes. The library was a mother built for her son and she needed the college promised that they should not changed the building of the library. So, the library is the same of many years ago and it will never change in the future.

And the most interesting thing is the three lies of Harvard and people thought that if you touch the John Harvard’s feet, you will have good luck.
I am so happy to visit Harvard University.

This Friday, we went to visit the famous Ivy League college---Harvard University. The weather was very hot at that day. We took the orange line to downtown crossing and then changed to the red line and got off at Harvard Square station.

We were divided in to 2 groups and I was in team 1. A Harvard student who is major in history was our tour guide and he led us walk around the whole campus. He introduced the history of Harvard University to all of us. He was pretty humorous and we had great fun in his concise presentation about Harvard. We can tell that he is very proud to be a Harvard student from his look on his face.

Through the visit, I discovered that there are plenty of differences between Northeastern University and Harvard University. Firstly, the class buildings and dorms in NEU are new and modern. However, the buildings in Harvard are relatively old. Secondly, I think the school cafeteria in NEU is better than that in Harvard. The atmosphere in NEU’s canteen is more relaxed than in Harvard. To me, the furniture and settings of Harvard’s canteen are more like a library! They are too organized and serious.

In my opinion, Harvard University is not just a university but also represents the educational history of the United States of America since it is the oldest institution of higher learning in the US. Harvard is one of the best colleges in the US and every American is proud of it.

Exploring Harvard

This Friday, we huskies visit the most famous university-Harvard. Harvard is the best university in the world. This week we went to Harvard University which known as the world most famous college located in Cambridge.
Not only own fanastic quantity of teaching, Harvard University's research quality is also regard
as a first-class in the world.
It is fortunate that we have got a free student-led who just finished his freshman year in maths, he leads us walking through the building, tells us the story which attreck us a lot. The history of Harvard really involve lots of things.
In order to have a undisturbed environment to study and research,
Harvard declined most of the visitors, filming of movies to get into the teaching area,
so what we can visit today is the dorm of the students and some libraries.
And we can not get into these building except a place which used to be the graduation room.
Since the university used to called New College,
the name of Harvard is the name after John Harvard,
who bequeathed the university his library of
four hundred books and £779 pounds sterling,
which was half of his estate. Here is a picture of this toe,
it is said that people who touched his can get into Harvard. May be because of this his toe looks totally different from other part of the statue.

July 16, 2010, it is a very special day because it’s my second time to visit Harvard University. I visited it first time as soon as I arrived in Boston. I still remember I was so much excited at that time because it is not only the best university in the world, but also attracts the most international students. Compared to the last trip, all of us were taken to get some specific introduction about Harvard University.
Harvard University is a private university located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and a member of the Ivy League. Established in 1636 by the colonial Massachusetts legislature, Harvard is the first corporation chartered in the United States and oldest institution of higher learning in the United States. I was curious about the Harvard dormitory because the announcer said about 90% students live on the campus. It is no doubt that the dormitory meets the tastes of students very well. The main campus is centered on Harvard Yard in central Cambridge and extends into the surrounding Harvard Square neighborhood. The Harvard Business School and many of the university's athletics facilities, including Harvard Stadium, are located in the city of Boston's Allston neighborhood, which is situated on the other side of the Charles River from Harvard Square. My favourite building is Harry Elkins Widener Memorial Library. It was commonly known as Widener Library, is the primary building of the library system of Harvard University. Located on the south side of Harvard Yard directly across from Memorial Church, Widener serves as the centerpiece of the 15.6 million-volume Harvard University Library system, the largest university library system in the world.
Such a meaningful trip can give me motivation to achieve higher GPA because we can always regard Harvard University as our goal.

Friday, our field trip's destination was Harvard University which is the most outstanding University in the world. This was a wonderful trip, because we had a opportunity to touch the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States.
Harvard University was established in 1636 and in her about 270 years' history. She created total 7 United States Presidents for US : John Adams, John Quincy Adams, Theodore, Franklin Roosevelt, JFK and John Bush. So we can call it one the most successful universities in the American history and the history of world.

In the Harvard campus, the Harvard campus gave me the most profound impression, the Harvard University library system consists of Harvard College library and the libraries of the graduate and professional schools. Together these libraries house more than 15 million volumes, constituting the largest university library collection in the world.
So this Harvard trip was so wonderful and rich, I'm looking forward next trip!

Harvard University
This Friday we went to Harvard University to contain our trip. It is an amazing college in the world with top students, advance technology and outstanding professors.
First we visited the Harvard yard that has the many dorms for freshman. All the building in the yard looks very old which I seen in the movies that made me feel serious. Trees in the yard are tall enough to shelter from sunshine. Then we went to the since center and we stand outside the building listened to the tour guild’s speech who is a second year student in Harvard.
Next place, like a small church but is not a real church, actually is a memorial hall. There are hundreds of thousand names on the wall those are people who are famous in Civil War and Second World War and studied in Harvard. In the hall, there is not natural light because the windows are the marigold windows that have beautiful colors and patterns in the windows. The lights on the ceiling are extreme grace like lady.
After that, we go back to the yard to see the library. White building with many steps in the front and some column in the end of the steps. The most interesting thing for the library is the floors. The floors are not expanding to the up but underground. You can not image how many books in it, only to see the outside.
I am looking forwards the next trip to MIT.

This week, we go to Harvard University which is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This top university is every student’s dream, also is my dream. This is because Harvard University is an ideal setting for learning and students can more or less acquire the high and creative education. What’s more important, we are very glad to invite the second-year student to introduce this university for us. In the following paragraph, I will talk about two parts I am interested in.

Firstly, we visit the Student Housing. In the campus, we find that there are a lot of student dormitories. According to this second-year student, he told us that “over 80% percent of students choose to live campus, taking advantage of proximity to classes the wide array of resources and activities, and the opportunity to get together at any time of the day or night”. Then we visit the next stop ---- Library which is so fantastic and amazing. He also pointed that “this library, with its signature bell tower, is the physical an intellectual heart of campus. It is the world’s largest business library, with more than 600,000 volumes spanning seven centuries ---- a resource for the community as well as for scholars around the world”.

In one word, I want to say that Harvard University is wonderful!

we had a black heritage trip which was as inportant as freedom trail this friday. Eventhgh it was hot, but we were still attracted by this black heritage. During this trip, we each had a presentation when we got each place. It was a long trip that we spent near 2 hours on walking. The first destination was Robert Gould Shaw and 54th Regiment Memorial. It was located in front of state house. As we know, The 54th Regiment of Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry was the first black regiment to be recruited in the North.
We went alone the street, turned several corners, we egt the Smith Court Residences. These houses are the typical homes of occupied by black Bostonians. Thre are five residential structures on the Smith Court. As early as the 790s, the are of lower joy street and smith court was an important center of Boston. Today, they are the best preserved phsical locales avaiable for understanding the historal of African Americans in Boston.

It was a intesting trip for us, we have learned lot of history. We know Boston more and more.

Last week we have our mid-term exams. It was a time that I can find our problems in which courses. Through this exam I found some problems about me. I should study hard after classes, I cannot play too late.
At the Friday I did a presentation about Abiel Smith House. The Abiel Smith School, located at 46 Joy Street, was constructed between 1834 and 1835. It was built by the City of Boston to house the African School and was one of the earliest buildings designed by architect Richard Upjohn. Starting in 1787, many black Bostonians fought tirelessly against the inequality and discrimination in public schools. The Abiel Smith School is now a National Historic Landmark and is open to the public Monday through Saturday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
I think this trip was very interesting because I saw many beautiful buildings and many beautiful cars. The people who live there are very rich, that I saw the life style about them.

Boston Black Heritage Trail

Last week our team went to Boston Black Heritage Trail which includes some important sites in American Black History. The trail begins at Robert Gould Shaw and 54th Regiment Memorial and end at The African Meeting House. Each person is asked to give a presentation before one site. Among the 14 sites, I found it’s interesting when I walked along the Lewis and Harriet Hayden House.
The house was built in 1833 and its owner, Lewis Hayden and his wife Harriet were famous leaders in Underground Railroad activities. I made a presentation before this house with my partner Elaine.
Thanks to this interesting trip, I have learn more historic information about American black history. I am hoping for the next trip!

This Friday we went to a African America Heritage Trail. It's interesting that we took glance of the buildings which play important role in the history of African Americans. Because of the hot weather, the trip became a tired trip. The African Meeting House was built in 1806 to
house the first African Baptist Church of Boston
(a.k.a. First Independent Baptist Church)
and it is now the oldest extant black church
building in America.

I like these house with red brick and the flower next to the window or the door.

Later this week I went to the Museun of Science, that's an incredible trip, the muesum is interesting. There are lots of natural skills which attract me a lot.

This is pisture in the book but an imitate setting
of a SMOKIE catching a frog. That's cute, isn't it?
There are several different kind of models in the museum playing different kind of section of animal.

Here is another interesting thing; bees!!!
I've never find a hive like this which can show visitors how bees works. Thousand of bees stay in that room and make honey. When I look at it, I still can metion the voice they made.

This Friday, we had our The Black Heritage Trail which was as important as the freedom trail. The Black Heritage Trail is an important part of American history. Every member of the husky acted as a guide to introduce these historical sites.

We started at the memorial, learning about the history of black soldiers in the revolutionary war. Then we go through Beacon Hill. It is a beautiful neighborhood to walk through, rich in history.

The site which I was introduced was the Smiths Court, It consists of many small courts. It is located at the area of lower Joy Street and Smith Court was an important center of Boston’s 19th black community. At that time, African Americans began to reside on the north slope of Beacon Hill. Nowadays, the historic homes on Smith Court, along with the African Meeting House and the Abiel Smith School, are the best preserved physical locales available for understanding the history of African Americans in Boston.

Abiel Smith School also attracted me. It was the city's first public school for black children. The school's exhibits interpret the ongoing struggle started in the 1830s for equal school rights.

Although we felt a little bit exhausted in the end, we still enjoyed this trip.

It is an extremely hot Friday that we started the black heritage trip. This trip is for exploring African American in Boston that lived in ninetieth century. At that time African American in Boston lived in the west of the city, which is the north sloop Beacon Hill, where we started our trip. Their ancestors are African who were be send to Boston as slaveries. Well, after America revolution the African’s status changed a lot and the architectures that we saw in the trip are the places that are significance to those African American.
In the trip we do presentation in each place. My topic is George Middleton House. The original owners of the house are George Middleton and Louis Glapion who are liveryman and hairdresser. George was veteran in America revolution called “colonel” and led “chuck of American” that company is all African American people. His house looks beautiful and in front of windows planted some plant.
Another place interested me is The Philips School that is a typical ninetieth century schoolhouses. This is a special school that not every one can attend in this school, only for white children can had the permission to join the school. And African American child who lived nearby the school can not attend the school before the legislative abolished segregates schools. And then Philips school became to a one of the first interracial school in Boston.

Field Trip - Charles Street Meeting House

July 9, a hot and precarious day, trip for Black Heritage is start today.
Today, the Black Heritage Trail Trip total have 10 spots and every body in Husky team has a chance to do a presentation and my presentation is about the Charles Street Meeting House. This is a good opportunity to understand the local US history and to practice my spoken English.

The Charles Street Meeting House was built in 1807 by the white Third Baptist Church of Boston. When the Church was built, the question arose sometime later that people though this church's name "Third Baptist Church" was not strictly the property of the African Church on Smith Court. So the Church's name was consequently changed to Charles Street Baptist Church.
The segregationist tradition of New England Church seating patterns prevailed here.

In the mid-1830s, Timothy Gilbert invited some black friends to his pew, then he was expelled. But Gilbert went on his belief and he found the first Baptist Free Church which became the Tremont Temple, " the first integrated church in America."Today, the Church Street Meeting House is still standing there and shining brighter light.

This is a excellent and rich trip and I'm looking forward next trip!

On July 9, 2010, we visited 14 places by following the Black Heritage Trail. The day was too hot and few of us brought water through the trip. The weather disgusts us, but we also remember that each of us will give a presentation about a place. Introduced The Phillips School is my mission and I was very glad to do it. In addition, this presentation is totally different from the last one because we need to finish it by cooperate with others.
The Phillips School is typical of 19th century Boston schoolhouses. It was built in 1824 and it was not open to black children until 1855. Finally, the school was then moved to a larger building at the corner of Anderson and Phillips Streets and renamed the Wendell Phillips School. Before 1855, black children had to attend the school on the first floor of the African Meeting House. The Phillips School became one of Boston's first schools with an interracial student body when segregated schools were abolished by legislative act.
In the process of preparing the presentation, I knew the history of this school. Furthermore, I also knew history of other places after listening to other people’s presentation. Therefore, I think this kind of trip is really useful for us.

This Friday we went to the Black Heritage Trail and visited a lot of historical architectures. It was super hot that day, and we had to walk throughout the whole field trip. All the students were drenched in sweat and started to swill their water. Even though the huge sunshine was burning our skin, we still focused on our topics and were able to act as a tour guide and give presentations to our audience.

We learned some basic historic background regard to different spots through our team members’ presentation. So, it was worth walking a long way in such a hot weather. After the trip was over, some students went to see the museum; however, I was exhausted and did not make to visit the museum.

In the evening, our music teacher -- doctor. Ho. led us to listen to a concert in a theater at Boylston Street. The purpose of this activity is to interview those musicians and get to know them and to talk to them, to learn about how they make music, where they perform and when they perform. Even though, the concert ended at about 9 p.m. lots of students were still eager to ask questions about their music. We were very enthusiastic about that wonderful concert.

It was a great day and a fabulous start of our weekend!

Field Trip for Robert Gould Shaw and 54th Regiment Memorial

Today, our destination is located in Beacon and Park Street, Boston Common. It called Robert Gould Shaw and 54th Regiment Memorial. That’s one of the significant symbols of African American history. This 54th Regiment Memorial record a part of history about black and white abolitionists. Although the baking hot sun makes us uncomfortable, we still enjoy ourselves in this Field Trip.
Robert Gould Shaw, a young white officer from a prominent Boston family, also the colonel in command of the all black 54th Regiment, which entered the American Civil War in 1863. Unfortunately, he was killed in a failed attempt to capture Fort Wagner, near Charleston, South Carolina.
Because the black soldiers were finally acknowledged to Union army in 1863, the 54th Regiment became the first of its kind in the North, and was led by Robert Gould Shaw. Sergeant William Carney of New Bedford was wounded three times as he tried to save the American flag from Confederate soldiers.
At the beginning, the 54th Regiment was offered lower salaries that white soldiers. They refused to accept the lower pay and later received the increase.
The 54th Regiment Memorial not only is one of the beautiful landscape of Boston, but also the commemoration of Civil War of 54th Regiment Memorial. In general, all of us recognize more history about Civil War even the Boston 54th Regiment during this fantastic Field Trip.

This week we go to the African America Heritage Trail which is located in Boston. Also, we visit a lot of places, such as Robert Gould Shaw and 54th Regiment Memorial, the Phillips school, John J. Smith House, the African Meeting House and so on. In the following paragraph, I will generally provide the information of African American Heritage and mainly focus on one part that I am interested in.

According to the introduction of the Arica America Heritage from the website, it said that “between 1800 and 1900, most of the African Americans who lived in the city lived in the West End, between Pinckney and Cambridge Streets, and between Joy and Charles Streets, a neighborhood now called the North Slope of Beacon Hill. The American Revolution was a turning point in the status of Africans in Massachusetts. At the end of the conflict, there were more free black people than slaves. When the first federal census was enumerated in 1790, Massachusetts was the only state in the Union to record no slaves”(Museum of African America Heritage history 2010).

Additionally, what I am attractive to is the first site called Robert Gould Shaw and 54th Regiment Memorial. This is because the 54th Regiment of Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry was the first black regiment to be recruited in the North. Furthermore, I like that statue very much, which is quite delicate. Also, there is another reason why I like it. This statue is very similar in terms of appearance to one that is located in my hometown, Chongqing. Therefore, when I appreciate this statue, I have the strong nostalgia to my hometown.

In a word, I think this trip is very meaningful although the weather is extremely hot!

I have had a very impressive tour this Friday to visit the State House of Massachusetts. It’s a magnificent building face the Boston common which construct more than two hundred years ago. It almost has a same age of the United States and I feel monumental because I visit this symbol of America just before the Independent Day.
The building looks more like a big museum instead of a government place for me when I walk inside. There are exhibitions everywhere inside and outside this structure, each artwork stands for a special period of history of Massachusetts. It’s a place where full of histories and honors, I can feel it, smell it and touch it even I am not a citizen of Massachusetts. The place where representative vote for laws in this building is still used today even if it was build hundreds years ago. Every brick in this building become drop water in the river of American culture.
Dozens of flags used in different period of America are hanged in the center hall represent for honor; huge paintings describe the big moments of the state are decorated around the wall; Statues of great person of United States stand in the piazza, these are the real treasure and the power source of this great country.
You make me admired.

Black Heritage Trail in Boston
It’s hard to believe that it’s already the 5th Exploring America Tour since I came to Boston. After visiting the Museum of Fine Art, John F. Kennedy Museum, the Freedom Trail and the State House of Massachusetts, today we will have a Black Heritage Trail by exploring the historical remains of the famous black people in Boston.
When you walk in the downtown of Boston, you will find that this city is such a fantastic place. You can’t imagine that an ordinary house near the street is historical remains which some influential event had happened here hundred years ago. The Black Heritage Trail is such kind of area which many structures witness the progress how the black people fight for their equal rights. Many of stories happened in this area are written into the American history not only because they influence the black people but also all the other nations in the world.
Boston is a great city which always stands at the edge of the times; people live in here fight for their rights and freedom year after year from the Independent War until today. All the famous events happened here inspirit and educate all the people no matter which collar of their skins.

Black Heritage Trail

This weekend we had a long walk because we went to the black heritage trail. This trip is a walking tour that explores the history of Boston’s 19th century African American community. Between 1800 and 1900, most of the African American who lived in the city lived in the West End, between Pinckney and Cambridge Streets, and between Joy and Charles Streets, a neighborhood now called the North Slope of Beacon Hill.( http://www.afroammuseum.org/trail.htm)
I believe that every Friday is a hot and sunny day. So does this Friday. The sun followed us in the trip. Everyone drink a lot of water. We should do the presentation in front of every interested place. Every one had their own topic and introduced one of the places to us. My topic was the Lewis and Harriet Hayden House. Lewis Hayden was born enslaved in Lexington, Kentucky in 1812. He was one of Boston’s most visible and militant African American abolitionists. He was one of the men who helped rescue shadrach Minkins from federal custody in 1851 and he played a significant role in the attempted rescue of Anthony Burns. During the civil war, Lewis hayden House worked as a recruiter for the 54th Regiment. I think he was a great person and his house was cool.
In fact, I don’t like walk a lot. But this trip was very exciting and interesting. I like the trip because it let me know a lot of history of African American. I am looking forward the next trip.

The Visit to Old State House

The Visit to Old State House
This Friday our team went to Massachusetts State House for the 5th trip. The Old State House is the oldest surviving public building in Boston which was built in 1713. It is located near the Black Bay so we took the orange line and got off at downtown crossing. The Old State House is a unique building with a gilded dome. Here I have found many exhibitions about American Revolution or some essential events in American history and policy. According to our guide, the old state house is the place where declaration of dependence was first read here. In the central of the second floor is the Doric Hall. The name Doric Hall comes from its architectural style of its ten columns. In this room I have found a portrait of Lincoln who is the greatest president in my mind. There is one thing that impressed me most is the Council Chamber of Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. It is a grand room that I can even image the picture of an election was holding here.
It is a great experience for me to see so many interesting historical items and a good opportunity to know more about American history.
Last Friday, we went to Massachusetts State House. It was a interesting trip. There was a guide and she introduced something about the statues. We also saw the oil pictures, though I can not understand them well.
On Sunday, the U.S. Independence Day, I went to the Sandy Beach with my friends. Although it is a small beach, I still felt a moment of quiet time when I was facing the sea. I felt all the unhappy things were gone. It was a pity that I missed the fire work. But I saw the video later. It is really beautiful, there is something different from the fire work in China.
It is a good weekend.

Visiting Massachusetts State House

Last Friday, we went to Massachusettes State House, it is located at Boston in the Beacon Hill neihborhood. The golden round dome is given me deep impression and it symbolizes the improtance of Boston's lumber industry.

In the building, there are many amazing painted, these is decorated by artist Edward Brodney. Also, I was attracted by the stained glass windows, it was so amazing and i took many photos. The guide told us these represented about 160 State and each one represented 35000 people.
And then we visited the Senate Chamber and House of Representatives, in there, there are the galleries for the public, guests of the Speaker, and the press. And there is a fish hanging over the public gallery, it is symbolizing the importance of the fishing industry in the early Massachusetts economy.

Otherwise, the fireworks of Independence Day was really wonderful, everyone screamed for this and all the people were very excited. The fireworks gives me deep impression.

There are a lot of sculptures and paintings in the house. The Massachusetts Senate occupying the former House of Representatives Chamber under the dome. The Massachusetts House of Representatives occupies a chamber on the west side. All in all thought this trip I understood more about the United States. Also I understood about MA than before.
On the Sunday night we went to see the fire work. It is really beautiful. Many American people sang the national anthem. I can feel they love their country very much just like I love my home country. So I think wherever we live, we should love our country.

We headed to Massachusetts State House which located on the 24 Beacon Street last Friday. The golden pine cone on top of the dome is really an iconic building. It represents the importance of the lumber industry to New England.

There are a lot of paintings and status inside Doric Hall and a lot of History here in his part of the original State House. On our way to the second floor, I just had to stop to admire the beautiful main marble stair case. I have been attracted by the stain glass window on the top of the ceiling. The view of the stain glass window is breathtaking. ‘House of Representatives’ is a special place to be, the lady explained to us that there were about 160 State Representatives and each one represented approximately 35,000 people. Each Representative represents people from different cities and towns in Massachusetts.

Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular left me a deep impression. Concert, fireworks, Star spangled banners consist a wonderful night. Awesome view of Combination of sight and sound from the river and it is not too shabby at all! This is the first time I have been experienced like this .Thanks for such a spectacular event.

Today we visited the old Massachusettes State House. The building gave me the first impression is that it has the golden roof and magnificent building area. The old Massachusettes State House was completed on January 11, 1798. Today, it is the oldest building on Beacon Hill.
The building covers 6.7 acres or about two city blocks, there is a Bulfich's statue in the front of it. The old Masscchusettes State House has the red brick walls, white pallars and trim, and the golden dome catching evey visitors' sight.
In the State House, the different parts show the different history. Let's have a walk through the State House. when we into the State House, fistly, we can see a model of State House and the major difference between the model and the building is the color of the dome. At the second follr, we still can visit the Doric Hall, Nurse Hall, Memorial Hall and the Great Hall. the main staircase window also is a beautiful landscape in the second floor.
Of course, we could not forget the main effects of the State House. In the Legislative Branch, it has the House of Representatives, Senate Reception Room and Senate Chamber. In the Executive Branch, in has the Governor's Waiting room, the Governor's office and Council Chamber and Cabinet Room. All of these rooms are at three floor.
This week's field trip is a wonderful and rich trip.

The Massachusetts State House

Today we go to the Massachusetts State House. The State House is close to the summit of south side of Beacon Hill. It is overlooking Boston Common and the Back Bay. This is the new State House and it is design by Charles Bulfinch who was a public-minded citizen and had a served Boston as a selectman. I think this building is very big and beautiful. The building covered 6.7 acres and it si about two city blocks. It is faces south and has a good sunshine. It red brick walls and white pillars and trim are very special. The golden dome is favorite part. It is very lovely. It can catch the sun in every season.
There was a beauty girl who explains the State House to us. She showed us every where and told us the use of the house and the stories of the places. In the second floor, it has the State House Model show us the hold building. Then we visited the Doric Hall, Nurses Hall, Memorial Hall, and the Great hall, House of Representatives, Senate Reception Room, and Senate Chamber. It is a pity that we can not visit the Executive Offices because they are decoration. The thing which gave me a deep impression is the ceiling of the Nurses Hall. How beautiful it is! I just like stayed in the King’s house. It is art and elegant.
I had a good time in the State House. If you come, don’t forget to take the introduction book, and you will know more history of this lovely building.

This Friday, we went to Massachusetts State House in our field trip. It was a lot of fun and I took a lot of fabulous photos with my friends. This trip was unlike others trip we went before because there was a tour guide and she introduced the history background and interesting events about those statues to us. Her excellent presentation enabled us to have a deeper understanding of Massachusetts State House. I hope we would be able to have a tour guide when we visit others tourist destinations on our following field trips.

This Sunday was the birthday of America and I enjoyed the fireworks spectacular together with my dear friends. It made me feel great to have their accompany during this great event. “We have come for many years and really enjoy this event with the whole family!”—Acton, MA. I had the same feeling during the wonderful fireworks show and I felt my friends are just like my family. We are a big family, yeah!!! I bought a very cool drink which was called ‘monkey nut’ at a unique beverage station. Even though there was a long line before me, I still kept my patience and waited happily because I love that coconut package. It was so cool and lots of people asked me where I bought this fabulous drinking.

This weekend was absolutely the most meaningful time during my stay in Boston. I will keep this sweet memory deep in my heart forever!

Field Trip for Massachusetts State House

It’s another sun shining and fantastic Friday. As usual, all huskies and other groups will enjoy the Field Trip. Today, our new destination is located at Boston in the Beacon Hill neighborhood. It is also called “New” State House, the state capital and seat of government of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The Massachusetts State House was built in 1795 by a young native born architect named Charles Bulfinch. Actually, there has already has an organization like this. The architect called Chapman & Andrews. Nevertheless, the state leaders wanted a larger home which accommodates an expanding government. Therefore, the Massachusetts State House was accomplished in January 11, 1798. As the same time, it not only became one of the most magnificent buildings around the U.S, but also the beautiful landscape.

When we first came into the gate, the special and splendid dome provided a deep impression for me. The dome was first painted gray and then light yellow before being gilded with leaf in 1874. However, the dome was reprinted again to gray. Because that’s a significant method to protect the buildings and cities from bombing, during World War 2.

Moreover, we could easy to find an equestrians statue of General Joseph Hooker. It was located in front of the building. On the grounds below the central colonnade are statues of orator Daniel Webster, educator Horace Mann, and Civil War General Joseph Hooker. Furthermore, the statues of Anne and Mary Dyer are located on the lawns below the east and west wings.

In general, this field totally broaden my horizon in Boston history even the architecture of Boston. The more you enjoy in the Field Trip this time, the more you understand Boston.

The massachusetts State House

A visit to the Massachusetts State House
Lucas Li
Near the Independence Day, we had a good chance to visit the Massachusetts State House on July 2, 2010. When I stood in front of it, I saw the golden roof which looks like the one of church. In front of the building is an equestrian statue of General Joseph Hooker. Other statues in front of the building include Daniel Webster, educator Horace Mann, and former US President John F. Kennedy. The statues of Anne Hutchinson and Mary Dyer are located on the lawns below the east and west wings. In addition, the white pillars and red wall made me felt very solemn. It was built on land once owned by John Hancock, Massachusetts's first elected governor. Like the visit to Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, we must pass the safety inspection because many government officials work in here. On the second floor, we saw the model of Massachusetts State House, it was moulded vividly.
Inside of it, there are Governor's offices of the Massachusetts Senate and House of Representatives Chamber. The office of Massachusetts Senate is in the west end of the house and the office of House of Representatives Chamber is under the dome. The large main doors inside Doric Hall are only opened on three occasions: 1.When the President of the United States or foreign head of state visits. 2. When the Governor exits the building on his last day in office. 3. When a regimental flag returns from battle. I think we were very lucky because we had a very amiable hierophant. On earth, I felt very happy to visit the Massachusetts State House.

Federal Reserve Bank of Boston

A visit to the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston
Lucas li
On June 25, 2010, I was very honored to visit the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. This is a serious trip because we must pass the safety examination before we entered the bank. The Federal Reserve Bank of Boston is one of twelve district Reserve Banks in the Federal Reserve System. Their responsibility is to serve the First Federal Reserve District, which includes the six New England states- Connecticut (excluding Fairfield County), Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. In addition, the bank has a system which is composed of a central, governmental agency—the Board of Governors—in Washington, D.C. Twelve banks supervise each other and regulate certain financial institutions and activities.

There was a presentation which helped us to know how the Federal Reserve Bank work in a correct way. After watching this presentation, I know several functions of this bank. For instance, it hold the cash reserves of depository institutions and make loans to them and move currency and coin into and out of circulation, and collect and process millions of checks each day.
One of the most interesting things is that the person who works in the bank also showed us some money that was issued in the past. I still remembered the 10,000 dollars and 100,000 dollars. Learning finance can help us to work in bank more easily and analyze current economic situation accurately. I am jealously about who study finance because it is a great subject.

Enter the main building; we saw a model of the state house that is exact as same as the real building. The guide told us the only different between the model and the real one is the color of the dome.
In the second floor, at the end of the Doric Hall an impressive bronze status located nears the stairs. It is Massachusetts Civil war hero William Francis Bartlett. The hero lying in his comrade’s arms and his gun in near him. Though he was wounded in the war tired and weak, he still holds his weapon in his hands tightly. This shows strong and staunch that the soldiers have. Based on this they can win the civil war.
The nurses’ hall is the next place that I like. There are some nurses’ statues those people served in the civil war. The collection of art that called “HEAR US” honors all women who devoted themselves to Massachusetts government.
I am looking forward the celebration of July 4.

This week, we visit “The Massachusetts State House” which is located in Boston. This trip was different from others, because the interpreter gave explanation when we visit each place. From her description, I knew that after the American Revolution, the state leader wanted a larger and more elegant home to better reflect the prosperous new republic, spacious enough to accommodate an expanding government.

Today, the Massachusetts State House is the oldest building on Beacon Hill. The building and its grounds cover 6.7 acres or about two city blocks. Then the interpreter gave us some detailed explanations about each different statue and office. However, what I am interested in is the “House of Representatives”. The Massachusetts Legislature, or General Court, was established in 1644. It has two branches--- the 40member Senate and the 160 member House of Representatives. Also, the Representative can vote electronically by pushing a green “yes” or a red “nay” button on their desks. I think it is quite advance that at that time; the electronic application could be used in the voting. Therefore, that is why I like the “House of Representatives” very much.

In a word, I think I am interested in this trip and like it quite well.

the visit in Mass State House

Today weather is very good. In the 10.15p.m. We set off to the Mass State House. The Massachusetts State House, also called Massachusetts Statehouse or the "New" State House, is the state capitol and seat of government of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It is located at Boston in the Beacon Hill neighborhood. The building houses the Massachusetts General Court (state legislature) and the offices of the Governor of Massachusetts. In the house, We had see the house of Representatives Chamber, it is very Spectacular. The original red-brick Bulfinch building contains the Governor's offices (on the west end) with the Massachusetts Senate occupying the former House of Representatives Chamber under the dome. The Massachusetts House of Representatives occupies a chamber on the west side of the Brigham addition. Hanging over this chamber is the Sacred Cod, which was given to the House of Representatives in 1784 by a Boston merchant. The Sacred Cod symbolizes the importance of the fishing industry to the early Massachusetts economy. The second floor under the dome is decorated by murals painted by artist Edward Brodney. Brodney won a competition to paint the first mural in a contest sponsored by the Works Progress Administration in 1936. It is entitled "Columbia Knighting Her World War Disabled." Brodney couldn't afford to pay models, and friends and family posed. The model for Columbia was Brodney's sister Norma Brodney Cohen, and the model for the soldier on one knee in the foreground was his brother Fred Brodney. In 1938, he painted a second mural under the dome called "World War Mothers." The models were again primarily friends and family members, with sister Norma sitting beside their mother Sarah Brodney. The New York Times notes that the murals are relatively rare examples of military art with women as their subjects.
