What does the phrase “the American dream” means to you?
James Truslow Adams states: "The American Dream is "that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement.” in his book The Epic of America which was written in 1931.
As an international student coming a long way from China to the U.S. to attend university, to me, the American dream means to get a higher GPA as possible, enjoy college life, obtain a college diploma, and explore America.
It is not easy for my parents to make the decision of sending me to America to start college life. Financially, they have to pay for my tuition and living expense in America, and that maybe mean to give up a house property in Shanghai or traveling around the world. Emotionally, they have to suffer the pain of being away from me for a long period of time.
My parents have given up a lot to support me and let me pursue my American dream. It is their sacrifice that transformed to my motivation, courage and determination. I’m going to make the most of my college life to make my American dream come true and become a fully human.
